Bear Dive: Night of the Living Kinks

Local fans can head down to Bear Dive and view the Night of the Living Kinks trio.

Thanks to the owner, Mike Gouddou for including the trio among other inspiring artists. Mike previously owned Dada, a San Francisco Gallery for 15 years and migrated his talents to Bear Dive, providing space to celebrate local works at events like Night of the Living Kinks which celebrates leather.

For these pieces I decided to go with larger sizes for greater visibility in open spaces. Simple clothing that supports (athletically!) the confidence in body and sexuality were used, including jockstraps, harnesses, and a cowboy attire. These elements can be found at bars like Bear Dive on various nights so connecting to a truthful and playful representation was important. In these works I used the two primary colors that provide a variation in perspectives with daylight and lights used for nighttime celebrations.

You might notice one of my inspirations is from UPA (United Productions of America) and the simplicity with an element of play. Take a few glances with the pieces. First, look at the sensuality and submission. Next, reflect on the color (blue, red, black, white) and how they balance throughout your evening adventures. Last, see how the shape of the paint contrasts with the ink. In some places they trace together others are slight imperfections. That’s what I love about these pieces, how we can have fun with sex and sexuality while finding an intriguing thought intermixed with a giggle.
