Hot Springs Series

The views within Harbin and Wilbur Hot Springs are pretty memorable and during my first visit to each place I found respite from the world dominated by technology. Here I could unplug and unwind and be in the moment of life. The emerald-green color in one of the pools glistened against the outdoor décor. The layout of pools right above canyons, creeks and hills full of wildlife were so inviting. Most of my time involved soaking, reading, meditation, and playing card games along the pristine mountains and curious critters like deer and bats.

I found the digital medium to be the best to illustrate these since it offers me many options to experiment with the layout and color schemes. It also provides a playful and calming sense, accessible through online print services. Future plans include acrylic paintings that are larger versions of the digital medium.

At Wilbur Hot Springs I was immediately struck by the landscape views that were as panoramic as so many of the backgrounds found among animations. For the overall style, I drew inspiration from Shag’s works, looking at the use of color and the simplicity of shapes. At Harbin, the pools near the Domes and the cascading hills created a peaceful pause for sketching and reading.

Each of these prints are available on canvas and take a few weeks for production and shipping. Prints include a signature and personalized message.
